You take the Penguins until the Capitals can prove they can clutch up. Capitals maybe the healthier team at the moment. This series will come down to which of the "2nd line" Centers can out duel the other.

Goalies are the difference. I agree. Especially when it comes to special teams.

Fleury gives up JUICY rebounds. The Blue Jackets couldn't convert them into goals. I fear the Capitals won't have that problem.

I guess I'll take the Penguins. I don't see them getting rattled as much as the Caps have been. Plus 10 players scored for the penguins in 5 games. 8 have scored for the caps and they basically played 7 games.

Everyone keeps saying that the caps blue line is so great.. I fail to see how they are that deep. Orpik is like 40.. ooof... Shatty is like Minus forever even Nisky walked from the pens.. (oops bonehead move)... Statistically speaking the caps blueline is average at best in the playoffs, whereas the Penguins blue line has been solid and win. Period.

Besides, the first line is all the caps have as offensive.... Yikes.

I will certainly give the Capitals the Netminder argument in this series only because more recent memory holds the Flower in shaky terms. But then again he did make it to 2 cups and win one.. just saying.

Go Pens!!!

#Pens allowed 38.8 shots per game (most among playoff teams) in first round vs. Jackets. Will be tough to get away with that vs. Capitals.

The Rangers have faced the Pittsburgh Penguins four times in the postseason, and each series ended badly. Mario Lemieux and Company swept the Rangers in 1989, knocked them out in six games in 1992 and ousted them in five in 1996. In 2008, Sidney Crosby was at the controls as the Rangers fell in five.

And it in 2014 and 2015 the Rangers beat the Penguins. The Rangers have nothing to do with this. The Capitals have never been until the ECF, until that time arrives hockey fans have the authority to doubt them. This should be there year though.

They have been there.

If only I rooted for a team that spent more money than everyone else prior to the salary cap....

Oh. So when people talk about the Pens/Caps history, they are only referring to the last 4 years or so? Okay.

Hey HB, dig up some old blogs from last year. I want to see how many times people said this "Should" be the year for Washington. Lol Anyone who picks the #1 team is lame and silly to think the top seed is going to win it all... every year...

Exactly 20 years ago in fact. When Ovie does it, I'll congratulate him.

Whispers: Capitals had a helping hand in the 2004-05 lockout when they unload all the over priced talent they had the roster. Including at the time, the richest contract in NHL history.

Internet better, sweetie.

Right, because having Jagr on the team (we sent that contract to you btw...oh irony) means that the Caps spent as much money as the Rags, Avs, or Wings in the 90s.

Be smarter better, cupcake.

Thank the heavens!!!

Now big market teams like Tampa Bay, Dallas, New Jersey, and Colorado can't buy their championships against small market teams like New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Toronto.

The salary cap was all about the owners making more money, not about parity. And the owners even (frank)ed that up, which led to the 12/13 lockout.
